Jackie Brown is head of the Mathematics and Statistics faculty at Mount Hutt College. She is a passionate educator, who is always searching for innovative ideas in teaching and learning, challenging traditional boundaries, and ensuring learning is relevant for students to develop their key capabilities.
Jackie was instrumental in the introduction and implementation of ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) at the college, opening up a world of possibilities for both students and teachers. She helped deliver professional learning for teachers, introducing a range of technologies.
After being awarded a TeachNZ scholarship to complete her Master of Education in 2016, she helped to develop and lead new appraisal systems at her school. These were designed to recognise the balance teachers and leaders needed between professional learning and accountability in their attestation. She shared her ideas with others at the 2016 Energise Conference in Canterbury. Jackie has also participated in the Microsoft Innovator Educator (MIE) programme in 2017 and 2018.
