About Mike Bennetts
Mike Bennetts is an internationally recognised executive in the global energy sector, with a particular focus on transitioning to lower carbon fuels. He is a firm believer in the importance of building and maintaining individual and organisational resilience, having seen firsthand the challenges of navigating crises — from the global financial crisis in 2008 to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While at Z Energy, Bennetts grappled with the challenge of balancing stakeholder needs with the pressing concern of climate change. He recognises that Z sells products responsible for around 9% of New Zealand's total emissions. Nevertheless, Bennetts is optimistic about the future and believes that "walking in a world of paradox" is worth it for the change we aim to create.
Bennetts understands that time is of the essence in tackling climate change, and that the longer we wait to decarbonise, the harder and faster we will need to go to keep global warming under control. He is passionate about inspiring rangatahi to take action and acknowledges that the decisions made now will have long-lasting consequences.
