Malcolm Johns
Recently appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Genesis Energy, Malcolm Johns is an experienced leader known for guiding iconic organisations through transformational change.
Malcolm was previously CEO of Christchurch Airport. Starting in 2014, he led the Airport’s post-Christchurch earthquake recovery just in time to embrace the COVID-19 global pandemic.
In a decade of existential events, Malcolm set the airport on an accelerated journey of learning how to think about, embed and activate digital transformation.
He created a culture of welcoming continuous commercial and operational disruption, and developed a series of mental models and approaches to disruption to recover, reset and re-think business.
This has seen Christchurch Airport achieve many world-class outcomes — including being the first airport recognised globally as reaching level 4 carbon accreditation by the world airport body Airports Council International.
Malcolm has held a number of senior leadership and governance roles within New Zealand’s transport and tourism sectors, including deputy chair of Tourism New Zealand, and mentors startups in the technology sector.
