Event Host — Wellington

Role and purpose

Are you an experienced event host or have a number of years working in the service industry and are looking for an opportunity to support leadership development programmes throughout the year? 

Do you have a passion for customer care and a love for ensuring plans are carried out with excellence?

We’re looking for multiple independent Event Hosts that we can call upon to support us in delivering intermittent, one- to three-day events in Wellington. Each event day is approximately 10 hours and includes set up and pack down.

You'll be responsible for overseeing the on-site logistics and working with our Senior Event Producer to ensure our attendees have an experience filled with manaakitanga. Your work will be critical in creating an environment where our attendees receive exceptional service that is grounded in our values and kaupapa.

We're seeking a hands-on Event Host with proven experience in delivering events in a way that leaves our attendees and speakers feeling like they've received exceptional care.

Responsibilities

  • The position includes the following duties and responsibilities, and any duties and responsibilities reasonably incidental to those.

  • Attend pre- and post-event virtual meetings for efficient handover and debrief

  • Onsite liaison with venue for all needs including equipment, timing, catering, dietary requirements

  • Onsite liaison with technical provider

  • Setup and pack down Boma equipment

  • Greet and support all attendees

  • Communicate with Senior Event Producer on attendee needs, book sales and debrief items

  • Manage Slack activation for the cohort during event with provided resources

  • Activate background music during the programme and on breaks

  • Clear up and reset attendee assets each day

  • Support book sales at-event

  • Provide assistance and manaakitanga to our faculty and facilitators

  • Oversee and deliver on our Health and Safety Policy and control methods outlined in the comprehensive risk assessment matrix and notify the H&S coordinator of any new hazards

  • Ability to deliver on provided event plans in line with our values and offer suggestions for improvement

  • Follow event plans and problem-solve any issues as they arise to ensure the smooth running of the events on the day

The successful candidate

  • Has 2+ years experience in a similar role or service industry

  • Is a master communicator, able to connect with customers and the team with huge clarity and in a way that leaves a lasting, positive impression.

  • Is a natural problem-solver who is always on the lookout for innovative solutions to complex issues. 

  • Has second-to-none attention to detail, ensuring that customer interactions are accurate. 

  • Is able to juggle multiple tasks and priorities while ensuring that customer needs and expectations are met.

  • Is hands-on and able to lead with initiative and individual contribution.

  • Approaches challenges with an open mindset, creativity, hunger and lots of energy.

  • Is able to see other people's points of view and take on board feedback.

  • Flexible and approachable with a positive attitude

  • Ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders and attendees

  • Passionate about people’s learning and development

 

Availability in your local area for the following events is required:

  • Dare To Lead™ Wellington: May 15-16

  • Dare To Lead™ Wellington: September 18-20

The Event Host will need their own cell phone and laptop.

Where you’ll work from

Pre- and post-event meetings will be held via Zoom; otherwise, work will take place in the city where the event is held.
